13th December 2010 (Alex Young)

The Others.
7-a-side (almost) and Hamilton goes over.
Justin / Ed / Graham / Rob / Harvey / Jerome / Toma / AlexY
After the "high" of Sunday afternoon's victory the Monday night encounter aganist the others was a banana skin.  Anything but.  Age and guile won through over youth and exhuberance and it was a 3-2 victory to us through quality passing and simple football.  Quality team performance all around and it was refreshing to hear AlexH berating the other team for their direct tactics.  Even with Sunday's Man of the Match Adam Heeks joining the Others half way through the goals still did not come.
Lots of good performances across the park meant it was difficult to pick out a player but going with Alex Young - scored 2 goals and was all over the pitch working for the team.
One downside was the injury to Justin who went over on his ankle while making a cat-like save.  Hope it will be better soon Justin.

MATCH - Russel School (Home) - Sunday 12th December

A crisp Sunday afternoon saw the ancient footballing rivalry between Christ Church & Russell schools renewed at the sporting amphitheatre that is the Clement Danes astro pitch.

Playing to retain the prestigious Sathi Cup our team took to the pitch under the watchful gaze of our Director of Football, Justin Edwards and Head Coach, Ed Hems. Joining Justin and Ed on the touchline were a capacity crowd of 18 people (and a dog) who were served up a game worthy of the best traditions of this fixture which ebbed & flowed across the 90 mins.

The 4-4-2 starting line saw instant pressure being applied and Russell took the lead through a finely taken goal by Alex Hamilton. This setback was soon negated by a fine strike by Alex Young who wheeled off to celebrate in some style only to find his team mates were too knackered to run after him and join in !

Half time saw the team buoyed up by the sight of Jeremy lighting up another cigarette and the tactical changes of bringing Wall and Heys into central midfield. The second half saw Christ Church take the upper hand and we took the lead through a crisply taken penalty by Phil Wall.

From 2-1 down Russell rallied strongly and won a penalty when Graeme Foster sliced their centre forward in half (trust me Graeme, it was a penalty and you did touch him !). A good penalty giving Amar no chance left the scores at 2-2 going into the final quarter.

Our winner came 10 mins from time. Looking forward to his post match cigarette Jeremy ambled over to take a fine corner which was met by Adam Heeks who powerfully headed into the far corner – a top goal !

A frantic final 5 minutes saw the normal share of drama and goal mouth scrambles but we managed to hold on to secure the cup and the undying respect of the Chorleywood primary schooling community. For the record Adam Heeks was nominated Man of the Match and won a meal for 2 which the Sathi had kindly donated.
